WDS Honored with Challenge Coin from the U.S. Coast Guard & Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Army

At World Distribution Services, we strongly believe in making positive connections and fostering growth and development in the communities we serve. From WDS team members meeting with students at local universities to talk about logistics careers and why they enjoy being part of the company, to working with local organizations who provide humanitarian aid overseas, our teams across the country are always finding ways to participate in and give back to their communities.

The WDS Norfolk Team, which comprises our locations in Virginia Beach & Chesapeake, is no exception. They were recently honored by U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army for their assistance and collaboration.

U.S. Coast Guard Honors WDS Norfolk Team with Challenge Coin

Recently, we had WDS representation at a Change of Command ceremony for the U.S. Coast Guard Station Little Creek, where we were presented with a Challenge Coin from the outgoing Office in Charge. Challenge Coins symbolize comradery, loyalty, and dedication to the U.S. Coast Guard and its service members.

WDS earned the award partly due to our collaboration with the Transition Assistance Office, which recognizes our efforts to highlight opportunities for military personnel and veterans within the company. The Transition Assistance Office runs a mandatory program for all military members exiting the service to assist with their transition into civilian careers.

U.S. Army Presents WDS Norfolk Team with Certificate of Appreciation

Additionally, a U.S. Army Civil Affairs team met with our team at the WDS Virginia Beach distribution center to learn more about our facilities and operations.

“World Distribution Services in Virginia Beach was recently presented a Certificate of Appreciation when they were honored to support a U.S. Military Civil Affairs Team in a recent exercise while discussing operations across international shipping, port, as well as warehousing and distribution,” shared the U.S. Military Civil Affairs Team. “A small detachment came by the Virginia Beach warehouse and met some of the staff to gain an increased familiarization with World Group operations and networking.”

“Civil Affairs Teams are renowned to work in remote locations, help protect civilians, and reduce the root causes of instability.  They inform leadership of what communities abroad need when in crisis zones, as well as help distribute humanitarian aid to those in need,” they explained.

This certificate recognizes the time spent explaining our operations, discussing possible future collaborations, and helping the Civil Affairs Battalion gain a clearer understanding of the logistics chain from overseas to warehouse and distribution.

As part of connecting with the communities where we operate, the team in Norfolk has helped the Civil Affairs team gain a better understanding of our operations, movement in and around the port, and warehousing. Through informational meetings, Q&A about the different roles within our team, and networking for future partnerships, the team in Norfolk has helped support this vital organization. WELL DONE, TEAM NORFOLK!!!” said Nicole Butcaris, Director, Customer Experience at World Distribution Services.

We are proud to receive this recognition for our involvement with the local maritime community. We continue to be actively engaged with various local organizations, participate in community events, and work closely with the community to spread awareness of our organization and opportunities. Our efforts to foster strong relationships, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose have contributed to the recognition we have received.
